In 2025, we join in celebrating a momentous occasion—the 50th anniversary of Frei AG, a pioneering company in Wittenbach, Switzerland, that has been a cornerstone of innovation in the can making industry since 1975.
From the very beginning, Frei AG set out with a clear vision: to revolutionize seam protection and curing solutions for welded cans. Founded by Siegfried Frei in 1975, the company’s commitment to precision and excellence was evident from its early days. By 1982, Frei AG introduced its groundbreaking powder coating unit, setting new standards for the durability and safety of metal packaging. And just a year later, the company expanded even further by establishing its own can production facility in Tübach—solidifying its place as an industry leader and gaining firsthand experience.
Engineering progress through the decades
Over the following decades, Frei AG focused relentlessly on advancing its technologies, refining powder coating systems for both inside and outside applications and lacquer coating systems, while also pioneering state-of-the-art gas curing solutions. Today, more than 3,000 gas curing and seam coating units are in operation around the world, a testament to the company’s global impact and reputation for excellence.

In 2020, a new chapter began when Soudronic took a significant step forward by acquiring Can Man, the parent company of Frei AG. This union created a powerhouse of innovation and expertise, aligning Frei AG’s vision with Soudronic’s global reach. Together, we have amplified the legacy of Frei AG, ensuring that its technologies continue to evolve, always with an eye on the future.
